Restoring a Piece of Greenville History: Exterior Shutter Installation at Stone Cottage

At Integrity Blinds and Shutters, some projects mean a little more because of the history behind them — and our recent exterior shutter installation at the historic Falls Cottage in downtown Greenville was one of those special opportunities.

Known for many years as Mary’s at Falls Cottage, the historic building is now being transformed into Stone Cottage, a refreshed restaurant and event space located beside Falls Park on the Reedy. Our team had the privilege of installing custom exterior shutters by Design Shutters as part of the property’s exciting renovation.

A Building with Deep Greenville Roots

According to the Carolina Foothills Garden Club, Falls Cottage was originally built in 1894 by W.E. Touchstone as a family home and rental property in Greenville’s growing West End. Over the years, the building served many purposes — including operating as a service station during the rise of the automobile era before eventually being restored and preserved as part of the Falls Park revitalization efforts.

The cottage itself became an important part of Greenville’s history as Falls Park transformed from an overlooked area into one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Upstate. In the 1970s, the Carolina Foothills Garden Club partnered with the City of Greenville to restore the property and preserve the surrounding Reedy River area that is now known as Falls Park.

Today, the building is entering a new chapter as Stone Cottage — blending Greenville’s historic charm with a fresh hospitality experience.

A New Chapter for a Greenville Landmark

As the historic Falls Cottage enters its next chapter as Stone Cottage, the property has been purchased by the owners of Passerelle Bistro, who plan to transform the space into a unique dining and event destination in downtown Greenville.

The vision for Stone Cottage includes hosting meals, celebrations, private gatherings, and community events while preserving the charm and character that have made the cottage such a recognizable part of Falls Park.

The renovation reflects Greenville’s continued focus on blending historic preservation with thoughtful new development — something that has helped make downtown Greenville one of the most admired downtown districts in the Southeast.

Exterior Shutters Designed to Complement Historic Architecture

When working on a historic property, every design choice matters. The goal is never to overpower the character of the building, but rather to enhance and preserve it.

For this project, the exterior shutters from Design Shutters were carefully selected to complement the timeless architecture and aesthetic of the cottage. The finished result adds depth, contrast, and curb appeal while still respecting the history and character that make the property so iconic.

Our team takes pride in paying attention to every detail during installation, especially on projects where craftsmanship and appearance play such an important role.

Proud to Be Part of Greenville’s Growth

Downtown Greenville has become nationally recognized for its beauty, preservation efforts, and unique blend of historic and modern architecture. Being able to contribute to projects that help preserve that identity is something we’re incredibly proud of.

As Stone Cottage continues its transformation, we’re excited to see this historic building once again become a destination for the Greenville community.
